The SNJB has long been a reliable alternative to congestion at the Downtown Tunnel and delays due to a Berkley Bridge lift, but a new bridge in South Norfolk adds another local shortcut this fall! The City of Chesapeake has replaced and realigned the 22nd Street Bridge with Poindexter Street which delivers a desirable connection between I-264 and the SNJB.
Check out the new bridge location (pink star on map to the left) and connected routing (highlighted in purple) to easily find your way around traffic and travel obstacles in the Downtown Norfolk, Berkley and Olde Towne Portsmouth areas. The new facility includes a bicycle lane and sidewalk in both directions and opened to traffic on October 29, 2020. Read more about the Poindexter Street Bridge project here.
